Extraction of one or more teeth is performed when a tooth affected by cavities, periodontal disease, trauma, or infection cannot be saved. It is also done for justified clinical reasons, such as wisdom teeth, orthodontic treatments, supernumerary teeth or retained baby teeth.
To perform an extraction, the first step is to make a thorough prior diagnosis, including a panoramic X-ray, to accurately assess the position of the tooth and its anatomy. Tooth extraction should not be painful, as it is a procedure performed under anesthesia.
